Free access for teachers and students to Google technologies and tools

In connection with the pandemic crisis, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research intends to implement a phased training program centering on the Google Apps for Education that will help train over 15,000 teachers from all over Moldova, IPN reports.

“The partnership that will are building with the American giant Google comes to the Republic of Moldova in a crucial moment, when the people more than ever need modern education technology, openness to diverse education platforms so as to cope with the challenges generated by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Minister of Education, Culture and Research
Igor Sharov.

Under the project, teachers and students will have free access to the Google education technology and tools, of the G Suite package, which will facilitate the teaching, learning, assessment and interaction of the participants in the process of study, including from a distance, and will ensure a safe and efficient platform for the education system.

U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan in the name of the U.S., Government welcomed the partnership between Google and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. “The United States is near the Republic of Moldova in the fight against COVID-19, while the Google for Education solutions bring technologies and innovations to school, being intuitive and easy to use. The Google Apps for Education are secure and will facilitate online communication between teachers and students, offering a unique and integrated platform. This way, the borders and barriers between towns and villages will be removed and everyone will enjoy equal opportunities, while the education system will become more inclusive,” stated the diplomat.

The partnership with Google was facilitated by the Moldova Competitiveness Project that is financed by USAID, Sweden and UK AID through the Center “Classroom of the Future”. During the COVID-19 pandemic, “Classroom of the Future”, in partnership with Google, facilitated access to the Google Apps for Education for 600 teachers from 150 schools of the Republic of Moldova. In July – August, the training program will be extended to cover the whole country.
