France, Germany and Romania expressed their concern about the developments in the Republic of Moldova, especially the attempts to change the composition of the Constitutional Court. By a press release that is quoted by IPN, the Embassies of Germany and France urge to ease political tensions and to settle the disagreements by democratic ways, by fully respecting the separation of powers and the rule of law.
For its part, the Embassy of Romania said the actions of some of the political parties in Chisinau against the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova, including their attempts to modify the composition of the CC, show lack of respect for the constitutional provisions and directly encroach upon the independence of the Constitutional Court. “We remind all the political players in Chisinau of the importance of strengthening the rule of law and of the necessity of consequently avoiding any decision that can affect the democratic principles,” the Embassy posted on Facebook.
On April 23, Parliament revoked its decision to appoint Domnica Manole as a Constitutional Court judge and adopted a statement on the capture of the Constitutional Court. Also, Boris Lupașcu was named CC judge instead of Manole by the votes of 56 MPs. The PAS and PPPDA MPs didn’t take part in the vote, leaving the sitting in protest at the agenda.
