France and Romania will continue to support the European integration efforts of Moldova, Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Lazar Comanescu and French Minister of State for European Affairs Harlem Desir said in a meeting with Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press office, the European officials welcomed the progress made in doing reforms and encouraged the authorities to maintain the latest working pace so as to first of all meet the people’s expectations.

“We are here to confirm our support for the European course of Moldova and come with a message of appreciation both for the current Government and for Parliament for the resumption of reforms aimed at coming closer to the EU,” stated Lazar Comanescu. He noted that it is for the first time that the external affairs ministers of Romania and France are paying a common working visit to Moldova.

Harlem Desir said that Moldova has many friends in the National Assembly of France who are ready to support it.

The officials discussed the priorities of the Moldovan authorities set in accordance with the European agenda, the implementation of the priority action reform roadmap, the internal developments, and the importance of the cooperation with the International Monetary Fund for unblocking the country’s external assistance.

Andrian Candu said the authorities are determined to make progress on the path of European integration. For the purpose, the legislature and the executive combined forces to accelerate the reforms in the justice sector, fight against corruption, energy and financial-banking sectors and to improve the investment climate in the country so as to increase foreign investment.
