The farmers do not abandon the protests. They continued to protest in the central square of Chisinau on December 24, reiterating the demands submitted to the Government. They said the 30 tractors parked near the Leușeni customs post will not be withdrawn. In Chisinau, they blocked the central artery to traffic for a period, IPN reports.
Andrei Dînga, a farmer from Ștefan Vodă, said the protest continues because they do not have a solution to their demands. The farmers ask to have a meeting with the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, when he comes to Chisinau, and for another meeting with Maia Sandu, who took up her duties as President today.
Protester Sergiu Stefanco read a statement by which the farmers reiterate their demands: compensations of 3,000 lei per hectare and keeping of the VAT rate of 8% on primary agricultural production, with the latter being accepted under the pressure of protests. Sergiu Stefanco said the employers from agriculture do not have money to pay salaries, cannot pay the debts for seeds, fertilizers, were betrayed by the politicians and by the Government that resigned without coming up with solutions for them.
The protesters said they will go home for the weekend, but will leave the tractors in the Great National Assembly Square.
