Fox hunting season closes March 20

The fox hunting season will end on March 20. The hunting of stray dogs and cats will also be banned after this date, Info-Prim Neo reports. Daniel Zugravu, head of the State Ecological Inspectorate's Flora and Fauna Inspection Division, has told Info-Prim Neo that the hunting of foxes, stray dogs and stray cats and other animals was allowed in August. The hunting season for other animals closed earlier than for these three categories. Daniel Zugravu also said that the persons who will hunt after the season is closed are liable to heavy fines. The fine depends on the gravity of the offense and other factors. The fine for ordinary people varies between 1,000 and 2,000 lei, while for persons holding important positions – from 4,000 to 8,000 lei. Fifty-six fines were imposed the previous hunting season. According to the State Ecological Inspectorate, over 5,000 foxes have been hunted since the start of the hunting season, between August 2010 and January 2011.
