A ban on fowling has been introduced along the eastern border of Moldova by the Ștefan Vodă District Emergency Commission after bird flu was reported in the village of Olănești.

The ban targets all wildfowl, including waterfowl. If any sick or dead birds are detected, the public is asked to notify the authorities immediately.

The regional Border Police has warned that failure to comply with the ban will be punished accordingly.

The National Food Safety Agency recorded 25 avian influenza outbreaks in just 10 days. 15 outbreaks of the highly pathogenic disease were recorded in wild fauna, and the others in household poultry. The Agency urges the public to keep their poultry inside the yards, and notify the veterinary staff immediately if any clinical signs are observed.

ANSA specialists warn that bird flu is a highly contagious infection that can also be transmitted to humans. That is why certain disease prevention measures are also important, such as adhering to rules of veterinary hygiene in animal enclosures and observing personal hygiene as well.
