Fourteen people of culture who distinguished themselves by their works last year were awarded at the 2018 Culture Awards Gala on January 15, which was staged on the occasion of the National Culture Day, IPN reports.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the National Day of Culture that is celebrated on the birthday of the great poet Mihai Eminescu is an occasion for pondering over the cultural phenomenon in Moldova and for transmitting a message of gratitude, appreciation and encouragement to all the creators of beauty. The executive will continue to make effort to improve the working conditions and salaries of those who work in the field.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc noted that the kindness depicted in Eminescu’s poems is increasingly absent in people. “The larger is the number of new gadgets, the lesser is the kindness in humans. To supplement it, we should probably examine deeper the solitary poet’s works and the works of all the people of culture who bring kindness into our lives,” stated the minister.
