A civic initiative launched by four young people is trying to tackle the age imbalance in the Moldovan political parties, Info-Prim Neo reports. The four young people, although members of different NGOs, represented no one but themselves in a press conference, stating they don’t make part of any political party and the initiative of changing the state of things in Moldovan politics is theirs only. Tudor Darie, Andrei Spynu, Dumitru Ciorici and Vasile Galusca claim to have come up with the idea of involving young people into politics while studying the lists of parliamentarians, among which only two young people were found. The young people say they want a European, democratic and progressive vector for Moldova, but the present political class, brought up in Soviet spirit have become an impediment for this cause. Mostly because of the old-fashioned politicians, the young people boycott elections, letting the elderly voters decide their fate. In 2005, for example, only two thousand students in the capital with the right to vote out of one hundred thousand expressed their option. To redress the given situation, the initiators of the project suggest that every political structure should involve young leaders, who will substitute yesterday’s politicians. Intending to attract as many supporters as possible, the four young men signed a Manifesto to urge Moldovan youth to take active part in the second round of the local elections, their participation being extremely important for initiating reforms in the political class. They took the responsibility to monitor the realisation of political promises concerning youth and to prepare a report on the number of young people elected for local public administration as a result of the June 3 elections. Later on, they intend to invite the youth NGOs and the young wings of political parties, to draw up a common plan to reform the political class, through which they will make sure that political parties include at least one quarter of young people in the lists of candidates for the parliamentary elections of 2009. To increase the adherence to this idea, the young people have launched a web page www.petition online.com/Moldova/petition.html, which may be accessed by anyone who wishes to support the given Manifesto.
