The Appeals Court sentenced four young men aged between 21 and 23 from Telenesti district to four and five years in jail for repeatedly raping a teenage girl from their village six years ago, when the girl was 13. Earlier, the Telenesti District Court acquitted the young men. Another man, aged 25, who is suspected of taking part in the rape, is waiting for a verdict, IPN reports.

When the offense was committed, two of the five young men studied with the girl at the same secondary school. These waited for the girl after hours and took her by force to the school’s basement or at the place of one of them, where they raped her.

The girl was threatened that she would be killed if she told somebody something. In the winter of 2010, the school’s principal saw how the individuals attacked the girl during a recess. Later the girl told the principal what happened.

Contacted by phone by IPN, prosecutor Lilia Calugher, who examined this case, said the fifth suspect has a criminal record and was recently convicted in another case of rape. The culprits serve time in jail.
