Four-year-old girl from Vulcănești in a coma after swallowing object

A girl aged four from Vulcănești was taken to the Mother and Child Institute in Chisinau by helicopter by a SMURD Galați team. She went into a first-level coma after she swallowed an object.

Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Liliana Pușcașu said that the child had to be resuscitated and was later intubated.

During the flight, the minor was strictly monitored by the team and suffered no additional complications. When the helicopter landed in Chisinau, she was handed over to doctors who accompanied her to the Mother and Child Institute.

Contacted by IPN for details, spokesman for the Mother and Child Institute, Maxim Cazacu said the girl’s condition on admission was extremely grave. She was admitted to the Pediatric Resuscitation Unit and is intubated. Doctors are reserved about her chances of survival.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, this is the first aero-medical SMURD operation performed in Moldova so far this year.
