The weather stations located in Balti, Leova, Soroca and Ceadir-Lunga will be repaired by this November. The system for monitoring the weather and hydrometeorological conditions will be modernized. The first deputy head of the State Hydrometeorology Service Elina Plesca has told IPN that the stations will be outfitted with modern equipment, while the data about weather will be updated every second, not every hour as now.

The rehabilitation of the weather station in Ceadir-Lunga is nearing completion. It is to be put into operation in the middle of August.

Fourteen weather stations are working in Moldova at present. They provide information about the temperature, humidity, pressure, wind and other conditions. The information is stored for being processed in Chisinau. After the equipment is modernized, the information from the weather stations will be sent to Chisinau in real time.

Until now, data about the precipitation during the last 12 hours were furnished at 9am and 9pm. After the stations are renovated, the forecasters will not have to wait for so long.

The restoration of the infrastructure of the four weather stations will cost US$850,000. The money is provided by the World Bank within the Moldova Disaster and Climate Risk Management Project.

The station in Soroca will be put in commission in September, the one in Leova – by the end of October, while that situated in Balti – at the end of November.
