Four versions are being considered as possible causes of the Uzinelor 9 storehouse fire, namely short circuit, violation of rules of using electrical devices, violation of rules of using domestic appliances and impudence when using open fire. Deputy head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Anatol Viniciuc told a news conference that the exact causes of the fire are to be found out by experts of specialized bodies, who are assisted by employees of the Service, IPN reports.
The fire lasted for about 31 hours. The firemen fought with the fire mainly from outside owing to the risk of collapse inside the building. Saving the people who were inside was the main task. The operation was difficult owing to the poor visibility and high temperature. The large number of boxes stored inside the storehouse also caused impediments.
As to the firefighter who died in the line of duty, Anatol Viniciuc said this was properly equipped, but he fell down from a height of about three meters. It is yet alleged that not the fall was fatal for the young man.
The Service’s head Mihai Harabagiu said that during ten years, the family will receive allowances equal to the monthly salary of the firefighter. Cumulatively, this is about 600,000 lei. Furthermore, the Service will offer the family an annual lump sum equal to 120% of the salary during the first four years and of 80% during the next eight years. The Government will also provide 100,000 lei in financial assistance.
Mihai Harabagiu said the fate of the building will be decided as a result of appraisals. Two criminal cases have been started so far given the loss of human lives besides the damage caused to tangible assets.
Human remains were found in the building one day after the fire was extinguished. Presumably, these belong to the 44-year-old woman who was allegedly in the burning building.
