The Centre for Children’s Rights has offered free food and clothing to four impoverished families in the district of Orhei. The material aid was provided as part of the project “Assistance for Underprivileged Families in Moldova”, financed by the British ACORN Foundation. The beneficiaries of the project are six underprivileged families in the districts of Orhei, Calarasi and Cantemir, which have never received support from charity organisations. Each family consists of 5 to 6 members, including orphans who are raised by relatives, grandparents or single parents. Because of the low income, the children’s guardians and parents are not able to feed and dress them properly. Besides, their housing conditions are unacceptable, and their homes are not provided with constant gas and water supply. Although they receive child benefits, this money is not enough to improve the living conditions for the children. The goal of the project is to ensure the basic needs for the underprivileged families in Moldova. For three months, the Centre for Children’s Rights will furnish the six selected families with food and clothes for children. In addition, the Centre will cover all the expenses of one of the families living in the village of Valcinet, Calarasi district, to get connected to the gas distribution network. Next week the Centre will bring food and clothing to two families in Calarasi and Cantemir.
