Four polling stations request extension of voting hours

Three domestic polling stations and the one opened in Tel Aviv have requested the permission to extend voting hours past 9:00 pm to allow all voters a chance to vote.

The stations that requested a two-hour extension, as permitted by the electoral law, are from Nisporeni, Balti and Cimislia. In Tel Aviv, the extension was also requested, but the voting process has already ended.

Central Election Commission chairperson Alina Russu said the electoral process was without major incidents. The Commission has received 18 complaints, half of which are from the Democratic Party. Six are from the Socialist Party, two are from the Electoral Bloc NOW and one from the Shor Party. They manly concern the organized transportation of citizens from the Transnistrian region to polling stations, as well as campaigning activity inside polling stations. The CEC has notified the police.

The turnout was below the 50% mark, with 1,450,000 voters participating. Over 37,000 residents of the Transnistrian region. Abroad, the number of voters has been 74,000 and counting. The last polling station in the United States will close, by Moldova’s time, at 7:00 am tomorrow.

Also tomorrow morning CEC will hold a briefing to present the preliminary results of the voting.
