Four men were arrested in the case of the armed attack on a cash collectors’ car that resulted in the death of a person. At the end of this May, the attackers fired at the cash collectors who came to take the money from a Chisinau shopping center. One of the collectors didn’t survive.
In a news conference on July 7, head of the General Police Inspectorate Oleg Bodrug said the four men, caught on Moldova’s territory, were put under arrest for 30 days. If they are found guilty, they will serve 25 years or life in jail, IPN reports.
The crime had been planned for half a year. Two vehicles were bought for the purpose. The group’s leader was earlier investigated within two criminal cases, but his guilt could not be proven. Two of the four men earlier worked as cash collectors and knew the process in detail.
The thieves stole 1.5 million lei, but the police found only a part of the money. Dozens of guns, cartridges, pistols, explosives and other devices brought from the Transnistrian region were found at men’s homes.
Oleg Bodrug said the persons were physically fit, practiced shooting and had military experience. None of them worked at the Ministry of Defense. The group’s leader was obsessed about guns. He was a mercenary in the conflict in Ukraine and in other military conflicts. During the arrest, the suspects put up resistance and the police had to open fire.
Prosecutor Cornel Bratunov said the men admitted their guilt, but regret nothing. The police and the prosecutors have reasons to believe that the four men were to commit another attack in autumn. All the four are from Chisinau municipality and are aged between 30 and 44.
