The 24th season of “Eugene Ionesco” Theater opens on September 27 with the drama “Oscar and Aunt Rose” by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, directed by Petru Vutcarau. Besides the nine plays from the repertoire, the current season includes four novelties and an older performance that will be brought back on stage, IPN reports.
Two of the four new performances are directed by Petru Vutcarau – “God loves” by Zlata Demina and “Black comedy” by Peter Shafer. Another one is a dance and corporal expression performance produced by Swedish choreographer and director Benno Voorham. It is entitled “Violence, a story of love”. Petru Vutcarau, who is also the theater’s artistic director, told a news conference that Benno Voorham asked that the whole troupe of the theater be involved in the performance. If need be, they will also invite acting students. The fourth performance is produced by Romanian director Radu Afrim. The play’s name hasn’t been decided yet.
After a pause of over a year, the performance “Princess Ivona”, based on a play by Witold Gombrowicz and verses by Friedrich Nietzsche, will return to the stage, directed by Vlad Ciobanu.
During the week after the opening of the season, the theater’s troupe will go on a tour to Bucharest within the “Chisinau and Bucharest” event. They will put on the dramas “Oscar and Aunt Rose” and “Joseph and his Lover” at the Odeon Theater. Another event will take place between January 5 and 15, when the theater will exchange tours with the Iasi National Theater “Vasile Alecsandri”. Next May, the troupe will go on a tour to Turkey.
A novelty of this season is the fact that all the tickets to the performances cost 90 lei. The places in the hall will be occupied according to the principle ‘first come – first served’. This way the theater wants to make the spectators to come earlier to the performances so as to get a better place and not to be late.
