If parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, four parties would enter the legislative body – the Party of Action and Solidarity with 29.1% of the vote, the Party of Socialists with 22.5%, Șor Party with 7.8% and the Party of Communists with 5.2%, shows a poll commissioned by WatchDog.MD and the Institute for Strategic Initiative’s (IPIS) and conducted by CBS Research during April 27 – May 6. Also, 16% of the responds didn’t answer, while almost 11% said they would not cast their ballots in elections.

In a news conference at IPN, WatchDog.MD head Valeriu Pașa said that among the decided ones, PAS would gain 39.7% of the ballot, PSRM – 30.7%, PPȘor – 10.7%, while PCRM – 7.1%. Other political parties would not pass the election threshold. “It is noteworthy that the survey does not cover the Moldovan citizens who are abroad and those from the Transnistria region. Therefore, the conclusions on eventual prognostications should take this fact into account,” stated Valeriu Pașa.

The rankings of the most trusted politicians are topped by President Maia Sandu, who was mentioned by 23.8% of those polled. She is followed by ex-President Igor Dodon (16%), Ilan Șor (4.1%), current mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban, Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, ex-Premier Ion Chicu etc. The question was open, without response variants, and the respondents could name only one person. Some 34.7% of the respondents said they do not trust anyone.

“It is a much lower figure than the responses to a similar question the previous years. The fact that it is under 50% is not bad. This means that the current political class manages to formulate a sufficiently diverse and attractive offer for over 50% of the voters and this is good,” stated Valeriu Pașa.

Sociologist Vasile Cantarji, of CBS Research, said the citizens were traditionally asked about the things that concern them, being offered a list from which they could choose three variants. 59.4% of the respondents said “the war in the neighborhoods”, which was earlier mentioned by less than 10% of those polled. Among the things that concern the citizens are also the prices, the future of children, poverty, corruption, unemployment, etc.

The people were also asked what they believe about the developments in Ukraine. 40.5% of those surveyed said this is an unjustified invasion as the Russian Federation wasn’t provoked by anyone. Another 22.8% said Russia defends the people’s republics in Donbas from Ukraine’s attacks, while 15.2% consider this in an operation to liberate Ukraine from Nazism. Also, 1.8% of those interviewed mentioned something else, while 19.6% didn’t know how to respond or didn’t answer.

The poll covered a sample of 1,111 persons, with the interviews being conducted on the field and by phone. The survey didn’t include the Moldovans who are abroad and those from the Transnistrian region.
