Four political parties performed activities that can be considered activities to designate candidates before the expected time, says the first presidential election observation mission’s report presented by Promo-LEX. These are the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform”, the Party of Action and Solidarity, the National Unity Party and the Union Political Movement.

In a news conference held to present the report, Promo-LEX program director Pavel Postica said the announcements by which the candidates for President were presented were disseminated before the set time. Judging by the developments at the previous elections, the parties risk not having their candidates registered by the electoral bodies due to these deviations.

The parties PRO Moldova, Our Party, the Party of Action and Solidarity, the National Unity Party and the Union Political Movement conducted political campaigns with a potential electoral impact. The incumbent President and two parties – the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova and the Shor Party – carried out activities that can be regarded as assumption of merits for activities performed with public funds.

The observers of Promo-LEX ascertained that the number of voters put on the State Register of Voters continues to increase, but at a more temperate rate compared with the previous years. On August 1, 2020, there were 3 286 304 citizens with the right to vote, by 410 more than in 2019. The budget planned for the upcoming elections is of about 167 million lei.

In the presidential elections, there will be
42 short-term observers and 608 long-term observers who will work since the opening of polling stations until the tabulation of votes.

Promo-LEX will carry out an information, electoral education and apolitical mobilization campaign that will include the holding of 25 radio and TV debates, making and dissemination of a video, an online information and apolitical mobilization campaign and offering of grants for projects to promote participation in elections.
