The two babies, one aged 14 months and the other 1 month, who were killed in the accident near Chisinau's suburban village of Vatra last night were sisters. The accident was also fatal for the girls' parents, the 31-year-old driver and his 22-year-old wife, investigators told IPN.

The family rode the car that crossed to the wrong side of the road, where it collided with another car frontally. The four were residents of Chisinau and were returning home. Inside the former car were also one 18-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, both from a Calarasi village. It's not known yet whether they were related. They also died instantly in the collision.

Several hours after the accident, a 16-year-old occupant of the other car died in hospital. The second driver, 28, is in a coma. Three other passengers are also hospitalized in critical condition and the investigators were unable to talk to them yet.

The accident occurred last night around 9:00PM on the motorway Chisinau-Ungheni. The collision was so powerful that an extrication team was needed to take the victims out.
