The presidents of Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland on Friday adopted a joint statement on regional security and European integration. The document signed by Klaus Iohannis, Gitanas Nauseda, Egils Levits and Andrzej Duda confirms the continuation of efforts to support Ukraine and the assumed commitment to strengthen joint efforts in supporting the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, but also “the common need to counter Russia’s revisionist policy and attempts to rewrite history”.

The four presidents agreed to closely coordinate their efforts to strengthen regional security and strengthen defense capabilities. They welcomed “Ukraine’s significant achievements in advancing on the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration”. The progress made by the Republic of Moldova on its way to joining the EU was also mentioned.

The declaration also emphasizes the “willingness to collaborate with Georgia with a view to granting it candidate status as soon as the priorities laid out in the European Commission’s opinion regarding Georgia’s application for accession are addressed”, and the support for “the decisions of the European Council to accelerate the process of enlargement of the EU regarding the countries of the Western Balkans, based on their progress in implementing the accession requirements”.

The four heads of state participated in a summit dedicated to strengthening NATO’s Eastern Flank, supporting Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, which took place in Kaunas, Lithuania.
