The foundation stone of the monument in memory of the legendary Russian singer Vladimir Vysotski was laid in the municipality of Balti on July 2. The event was attended by the artist’s son Nikita Vysotski. After the ceremony, Russian singers Grigori Leps and Slava gave a concert in the center of Balti town, IPN reports.

Both of the events were organized with financial support from businessman Renato Usatyi, who studied in Balti. Before the two events, the businessman laid a bouquet of roses at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great in the country’s northern capital. He said that Stephan the Great defended the country and never betrayed it. Even when persons whom he trusted refused to support him, he took no step back.

“This is a very interesting project. A very nice place was selected for the monument and I think it will fit the surroundings well,” said Nikita Vysotski. “Meetings will be arranged here and young mother will walk with baby carriages nearby. Life will be here. If a monument is put in Moldova to my father who died long ago, it means that our memory and your memory and love bring him back to life. Therefore, he is needed and will continue to exist for a long time on! I thank everyone for contributing to building this monument – the townspeople, the administration of the town, Renato Usatyi.”

Nikita Vysotski also said that he is in Moldova for the first time and the color of the sky here astounded him. “In Moscow, I look at the sky seldom. I manage the Museum House “Vladimir Vysotski” and have a lot of concerns and thus do not have time to admire the nature. I often receive promises from officials. A street has not been yet named by my father’s name even if they promised it for many times. What you do here, in a small town of Moldova, shows that artist Vladimir Vysotski is appreciated and his songs continue to be listened to,” he stated.

The monument cast in bronze will symbolically combine images from Vladimir Vysotski’s songs. Architect Moisei Miligrom said the monument must not only immortalize the great bard, but also join whole generations.

The newspaper “Komsomoliskaya pravda v Moldove” gave Nikita Vysotski a collection of verses printed in Moldova in 1968, which includes the firs poem of Vladimir Vysotski.

Renato Usatyi, who now lives in Russia, said that all the projects he supports in the country where he was born are intended for the people of Moldova, who encounter many problems and have many concerns. “I do things that bring smiles on people’s faces. I think the initiated projects cause positive emotions and thus I have a moral satisfaction,” said the businessman, adding that he will continue the initiated projects, but will not become involved in politics.

This will be the 21st monument to Vladimir Vysotski in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
