Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban requested the City Hall’s secretariat to investigate the case when a business entity cut down a number of trees on Nicolae Dimo St in the capital city in order to erect an apartment building there. It was preliminarily established that there is no Chisinau Council decision or court decision by which the given lot was allotted to the building company that is managed by brothers Vitalie and Gheorghe Cafca, with the latter being senior specialist at the General Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations Division, IPN reports.

The mayor said the protection fence installed by the company was removed on January 2. There were brought over 130 trucks with sand for covering the foundation hole. The payments incurred by the municipality should be covered by the company or this will be added to the blacklist of Chisinau building companies.

According to Ion Ceban, the construction works started there were stopped in 2018. In 2019, the construction authorization was annulled. “Even if the construction works were suspended, the Cafca brothers, knowing that they obtained the land illegally, went to court. Even if the case is pending in court, the firm notified the City Hall that it intends to resume works,” stated the mayor.
