Experts in urban development from France and Moldova will take part in the second forum “Urbanism and Sustainable Development of Chisinau” on April 20-21. The event is held in Chisinau under the theme “Urbanism at the Service of the Population”.

Main counselor on cooperation and cultural action of the Embassy of France in Chisinau Jérémie Petit, in a news conference at IPN, said in the first forum of the kind staged in 2016, there were emphasized the strong points of Chisinau city and the country that can form the basis of a sustainable economic development strategy. It was a successful event that revealed the necessity of strengthening the dialogue between the authorities, citizens and experts in urban development. “This year’s forum aims to address the urban problems in a participatory and inclusive format so as to generate operational recommendations that would contribute to implementing city policies at the service of the citizens,” stated Jérémie Petit.

He added that the experts from France and Moldova will discuss subjects related to the role of territorial planning for efficient urban governance and a city for the people. The event will also focus on the international commitments assumed by the Republic of Moldova at the Habitat III UN Conference on Urban Development.

“The new Urbanism Code hasn’t been yet adopted by Parliament and this shortcoming in the legal sector created problems at the local level. That’s why in the current edition we will have representatives not only of the local authorities, but also of district authorities. We worked a lot, during two months, with all the partners from the competent ministries and I think the forum will be a very good occasion for having a dialogue between representatives of Moldovan society and experts from France,” said the counselor of the Embassy of France.

The forum “Urbanism and Sustainable Development of Chisinau” will take place at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova and at the Chisinau City Hall and will include thematic workshops on urbanism-related issues.
