The Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal proposed that his opponent in elections Nicolai Dudoglo occupy the post of deputy governor. The mayor of Comrat does not yet hurry to take a decision.
In a communiqué, Mihail Formuzal says that if Nicolai Dudoglo accepts his offer, he will not only be able to criticize the power, but also to prove his ability to serve the interests of Gagauzia.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Nicolai Dudoglo said that he met with Mihail Formuzal on Tuesday morning and they discussed the situation in Gagauzia, the work program and the methods of developing the region.
“If I am to hold the post of deputy mayor, there is a personnel problem that should be discussed. If it is a joint working process, an entire team is probably involved. I asked him if he was ready to concede some of the administrative bodies to us. We have qualified specialists for all the areas, but Mihail Formuzal told me that the offer applies to me only,” Nicolai Dudoglo said.
He also said that he does not hurry to take a decision as regards Mihail Formuzal’s offer as local elections will take place this year and he intends to run for the second term as mayor of Comrat.
Nicolai Dudoglo said that Mihail Formuzal’s offer looks suspicious. He does not rule out that if he accepts the post of deputy governor and loses the post of mayor, he may then be dismissed from the new post.
The mayor of Comrat reiterated that he and the movement “Novaya Gagauzia” (“New Gagauzia”) that he leads continue to believe that the elections were rigged.
In the second round of voting for the Governor of Gagauzia on December 26, Mihail Formuzal polled by 1.5% more votes than Nicolai Dudoglo. The latter demanded a vote recount. After several weeks of debates, the Comrat Court of Appeals rejected the complaints filed by Nicolai Dudoglo and his supporters, saying they are groundless.
