Formuzal calls on potential candidates for Gagauz legislature to run unaffiliated

Governor Mihail Formuzal of Gagauzia calls on the persons who will seek a seat in the People’s Assembly, the autonomy’s legislative body, to run as independent candidates. Following this year’s local elections, independents won in most of the autonomy’s settlements, which proves that the doctrines of political parties do not correspond to the interests of the common people, Formuzal said in a statement quoted by Info-Prim Neo The Governor shares the belief that the candidates unaffiliated with political parties have more opportunities to serve the public interest while in office, on the one hand, and are able to act unrestrained by the interests of the represented political party, on the other. Formuzal also calls on political parties to allow a peaceful campaigning period. Elections for the Gagauz People’s Assembly are scheduled for 16 March 2008.
