The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is conducting criminal proceedings against Ion Caracuian, the former head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime. A number of searches were carried out today in a criminal case on illicit enrichment charges, IPN reports.
The investigation started on November 4 “based on reasonable suspicion of illicit enrichment by a person holding an office of public dignity who has accumulated, personally and through proxies, assets whose value significantly exceeds the officially earned income and which could not be possibly obtained in a licit way”, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.
Caracuian resigned in October, citing “personal reasons”.
No constraining measures have been taken in respect of Caracuian. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office said it will be back with updates on the progress of the case.
