The German Bundestag decided that the living Soviet war prisoners will receive compensation as a symbolic financial recognition for their sufferings, IPN reports.

Thus, former soldiers of the Soviet armed forces who were war prisoners and had been under German captivity during World War II, between June 22, 1941 and May 8, 1945, can ask for a lump sum of €2,500 in compensation.

The application can be submitted to the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues in Berlin. Details about the procedure and application forms can be found at www.badv.bund.de. The information is available in English and Russian.
