Former prisoners will be trained for new professions

In addition to the standard job hunting through local employment agencies, ex-prisoners, living with HIV/AIDS, will get a new opportunity: learning one of the new for Moldova professions. Depending on their needs, beneficiaries of the project will be taught various crafts such as, for instance, beading and other jewelry making techniques. “We have been working in prisons for over 13 years. Our aim is to provide social, psychological assistance, help former prisoners in finding a proper job,” coordinator of the project Liubov Nemchinova has told Info-Prim Neo. “Some of them, who live with HIV/AIDS, are physically weakened: they can not engage in regular work. We want to open up new career opportunities for them. For example, we will create a study course for profession that has not existed in Moldova so far - home cleaner. One can study this craft in Europe. From now on it will be possible in Moldova as well.” The project "Strengthening Moldova civil society organizations in HIV/AIDS prevention and care for women and juvenile prisoners" is scheduled for two years. In addition to activities aimed on social work with prisoners and their relatives, the project will involve into informational campaign two thirds of the Moldova population and include workshops for local authorities, non-governmental sector and prison officers. Project was initiated by Moldovan Section of the International Society for Human Rights in partnership with the German organization Pro NGO. Grant for its implementation was provided by the European Union under the thematic program “Development Cooperation Instrument (DPI): Investing in People Good health for all”.
