Premier Vlad Filat instructed Minister of the Interior Victor Catan to draft a bill for modifying the gun bearing regime, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The request was made following an incident involving guns that happened in a bar in Grozesti village of Nisporeni district on April 11, when the brother of the Nisporeni commissioner Iurie Pirlici was shot dead. Businessman Adrian Nichifor, who is suspected of killing the man, owns 119 guns legally, according to Pro TV Chisinau.
Asked if there are other persons who hold legally such a large number of arms, Minister of the Interior Victor Catan said the president of the Communists Party, the former head of state Vladimir Voronin owns 84 guns, half of which are sawed-off shotguns. One of these arms cannot be held by private individuals. Vladimir Voronin's son, Oleg, owns 13 guns, while former Minister of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc – 26.
The Premier ordered that the bill clearly define the conditions in which the gun permits are issued so that the security of the Moldovan people is not endangered.
