The ex-president of the Chisinau Court Radu Țurcanu is suspected of abuse of office. The Superior Council of Magistracy accepted acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu’s request to allow investigating the judge, IPN reports.
The Council examined the approach behind closed doors during about an hour. As a result of deliberations, the Council’s acting president Dorel Musteață announced the Council’s decision that was adopted with four votes in favor and three against.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, prosecutor Mariana Cherpec, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, said the involved judge is suspected of redistributing, in 2020, when he held the post of president of the Chisinau Court, financial resources allocated as one-off payments to employees of the Chisinau Court who contracted COVID-19 while fulfilling their duties to other persons than those who were put on the list approved by the Superior Council of Magistracy.
Radu Țurcanu was named president of the Chisinau Court in March 2017. He was the only candidate who competed for the job. In 2019, by the Superior Council of Magistracy’s decision, the judge was removed from the administrative post following a note informing that the judge obstructed justice. But he went to court and was reinstated.
