The public association of victims of political repression “Right to Justice” published an investigation concerning the property of the family of former chief prosecutor Viorel Morari, IPN reports.
The human rights defenders published fragments of cadastral documents showing that the parents of the former chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office own several apartments in central Chisinau, commercial areas and tens of parcels of farmland and building lots in Dondușeni district.
According to the estimates of the human rights association “Right to Justice”, the total cost of the identified property of Viorel Morari’s family exceeds €3 million.
The association’s head Pavel Grigorciuc in a video says they identified about 150 real estate assets bought by members of Viorel Morari’s family during the last ten years, while this held high-ranking posts in the prosecution service of Moldova.
Among the most important possessions of the family are a gas station and four Aeolian installations set up in northern Moldova. These assets belong to “Irarom-grup” whose only founder is Viorel Morari’s mother Eugenia Morari. The human rights defenders estimated the cost of these assets at over €2 million.
“Where was the money taken from?” asks Pavel Grigorciuc. “How often was Viorel Morari’s mother invited to the NAC and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office while she was spending hundreds of thousands of euros for coming into the possession of these assets?”
Eugenia Morari said the apartments were offered to her son by the Prosecutor’s Office. She refused to speak about the origin of other assets.
At the same time, Prosecutor General’s Office, responding to an inquiry made by the association “Right to Justice”, said the prosecution service does not have an own housing stock and none of its employees were allotted apartments.
