A former policeman from Stefan Voda was sentenced to three years in jail for use of torture. According to prosecutors, in February 2011, working as an inspector at the Stefan Voda Police Commissariat, the culprit kicked and punched a suspect in order to make him admit that he committed a theft. The victim suffered a concussion, IPN reports.

In April 2013, the first court closed the case, but the prosecutors challenged the decision in the Bender Appeals Court, which put the former policeman on probation. The prosecutors appealed again the decision and the Chisinau Appeals Court sentenced the former inspector to three years behind bars, banning him from holding responsible posts in the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior for a period of two years.

The court also ordered that the culprit pay 24,500 lei damages to the victim. The decision of the Chisinau Appeals Court can be yet appealed.
