The former mayor of Balasinesti village of Briceni district will be tried for falsifying public acts and for abuse of power. He is accused of using his position and reducing the size of the plots apportioned to six persons. He is also accused of appropriating farmland and of causing damage of over 6,000 lei to the budget of the mayor’s office, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The former mayor is also accused of signing four fictitious contracts by which his relatives were to carry out repair works at the local Home of Culture, but the works weren’t performed. Later, based on powers of attorneys, the mayor sued the mayor’s office in the name of his relatives in order to get supposed overdue payments and interest of over 111,000 lei. The mayor’s wife, as an economic entity, obtained the right to rent a plot at half price.

The last illegality of which the former mayor is accused is the fact that he obliged the secretary of local council to amend the content of a decision of the council. As a result, his wife came into possession of a plot of 0.4 hectares.

The prosecutors completed the investigation and sent the criminal case against the mayor to court.
