The former mayor of Bolduresti commune, Nisporeni district, Nicanor Ciorchina, has challenged the decision of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) acknowledging the termination of his mandate, anticoruptie.md reports.
This comes after the Electoral Commission decided on Tuesday to hold new local elections in Bolduresti, Nisporeni district. The decision was based on a notification from the Ungheni Territorial Office of the State Chancellery, which stated that the mayor of Boldurești had been unable to perform his duties between May 31, 2024, and February 14, 2025.
According to legal provisions, a mayor's mandate is terminated prematurely if they are unable to exercise their functions for more than five consecutive months.
Contacted by IPN, Rodica Sirbu, head of the Communication, Public Relations, and Media Department of the CEC, stated that the electoral authority has not yet been informed by the court regarding the appeal.
Nicanor Ciorchina is accused of hitting a child with his car in February 2024 and continuing to drive without providing assistance, later attempting to cover up the accident. The child passed away. The criminal case has been sent to court, but no verdict has been issued yet.
