A former Member of Parliament has been formally charged with bribery, announced the Antircorruption Prosecution Service.
Without naming any names, the Service said that, in 2016, the accused lawmaker tried to offer a €350,000 bribe to a fellow MP for the latter to defect the Communist group and join the Democrats instead.
Based on previous reports, including accounts by Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, multiple media outlets have deduced the accused lawmaker is Eugeniu Nichiforciuc, a member of the Democratic Party until 2020, and the MP whom he unsuccessfully tried to buy was Communist Elena Bodnarenco, who recently died of cancer.
