Moldova's second President Petru Lucinschi (1996-2001) said the Moldovan politicians after 1990 could not find a balance between rationality and emotionality when making decisions and this causes the abyss between the people and the administration to widen. Petru Lucinschi, who was elected Head of Parliament in 1993 and reconfirmed to this post in 1994, criticizes the current MPs for being indifferent to the people so that the people cannot influence them anymore. Petru Lucinschi made related statements during a scientific conference held to mark 20 years of the constitution of the first Parliament of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The former head of state and speaker said the members of the first Parliament managed to lay the basis for developing the independent Moldovan state, but also committed mistakes that could have been avoided. “The economy was destroyed, companies were privatized in a chaotic way. I think the Transnistrian conflict might have been avoided. The interethnic relations have worsened. We did not manage to mobilize the Russian-language speakers living in Moldova and make them understand that we want to build a democratic state for all the people, regardless of the language, nationality or religion,” Petru Lucinschi said. He proposed creating a council that would advise the Government and would include members of the first Parliament and of the civil society. The members must be politically impartial and represent every district. The council could be named the People's Council.
