Viorel Donica, ex-director of the state-owned company “Univers-Agro” who was a faculty mate of the Socialist candidate for President Igor Dodon, accuses the politician of planning illegal schemes and of committing wrongdoings when he held the post of minister of economy.

In a news conference at IPN, Viorel Donica related that he graduated from the Agrarian University, the Faculty of Economy, together with Igor Dodon and other current and former functionaries. Several years ago, he decided to invest about €200,000 in a cinema that was falling into ruin in Orhei town together with his family and a relative. As pressure started to be exerted on him and he risked losing his investment, he sought help from his former faculty mate, who then served as minister of economy. Igor Dodon asked US$15,000 from him for assistance. He sold his parents’ home in the native village and gave Dodon a part of the money, promising he will give the rest of the money later.

Viorel Donica said he wanted to denounce the politician, but thought that Dodon was protected by ex-President Vladimir Voronin and wouldn’t be thus held accountable.

According to Viorel Donica, Igor Dodon should not be voted because he is corrupt. Under the Communist rule, he was involved in illegal privatization deals and monopolized the meat and fish products markets, causing damage to the state budget and hindering other business entities from working. Igor Dodon also instituted a monopoly on the import of fruit and vegetables and on the export of grains.

The ex-faculty mate also accuses Igor Dodon of favoring, in exchange for donations into the Party of Socialists’ fund, companies that obtained the right to export fruit and wine to Russia despite the ban imposed by this country. The Socialist leader also designed a scheme to collect taxes for lifting the bans to enter Russia imposed on Moldovans.

The man also said that Igor Dodon has ties with the current government and the Republic of Moldova will not go far if he is elected President.
