The former Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoacă has been acquitted in a criminal case where he stood accused of favoring a certain company to create and operate paid parking lots in the city, a project that never came to be.
Chirtoacă himslef praised the acquittal decision as a demonstration of this case being a “fabrication” by prosecutors.
According to Chirtoacă, the decision also warns Anticorruption Chief Prosecutor Veronica Dragalin that prosecutors under her command, former and current, “commit crimes themselves”. “Normally, my case should be part of the investiation opened against the criminal group led by Plahotniuc, Dodon and Shor and the prosecutors sponsored by them, because this case is clearly one of their criminal dealings”, commented the former mayor.
A year ago, Chirtoacă stepped down as city councilor and as president of the Liberal Party, interrupting his political and public activity. The former mayor had been pursued in the paid parking case since May 2017.
