The former head of the Balti Military Prosecutor’s Office was given a three years’ suspended sentence for influence peddling. He was banned from holding public posts for three years and was obliged to pay the equivalent value of the ill-gotten gains. The prosecutors consider the sentence is too mild and intend to challenge it, IPN reports.

The criminal case was started based on a complaint submitted by the head of a military unit, who denounced the prosecutor’s illegal acts.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2016, when holding the post of acting head of the Balti Military Prosecutor’s Office, the offender asked for US$ 1,000 from the denouncer for hushing up the case in which this was investigated for misconduct in office.
