Two men aged 30 and 38 from Chisinau were arrested on suspicion that they forged lei bills and put them into circulation. The police established that the suspects put into circulation 100 lei banknotes at filling stations, shopping centers and drugstores, IPN reports.
The Chisinau Police Division said that as a result of searches, the police found over 1 million lei that is to be subject to lab examinations. At the home of one of the suspects, there was discovered the special equipment used to forge the 100 lei bills.
The men are held at the remand center of the Chisinau Police Division. They face 7 to 15 years in jail.
The police urge caution and ask those who suspect that they were given forged banknotes as a payment or as change to call 902.
