A forest on the outskirts of Cahul city is burning, as 6 fire squads have been deployed to the scene. Mayor Nicolae Dandiș is calling on members of the public to help put out the fire.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations says a 112 call was received close to 3:00 p.m. Firefighters found at the scene that the flames destroyed about 6 of the 10 hectares of acacia, pine and oak forest.
Firefighters continue to work on site to contain and extinguish the fire.
“We have a big fire in the forest, the Frumoasa Lake area, and I ask all the men who can lend a helping hand to extinguish the fire to come here. We urgently need help! If you come, call: 079984045”, Mayor Nicolae Dandis urged.
The State Hydrometeorological Service has extended the yellow-code alert for wildfires until July 22.
Rescuers repeatedly urge the public to be very cautious and strictly follow fire prevention rules. Do not set fire to dry vegetation, do not discard cigarette butts, matches or other lit objects around forest spaces. While resting in forest areas, do not leave fire sources unattended. Adults are urged to pay maximum attention to children and make sure they don’t play with fire.
