The forensic laboratory of the National Center of Legal Expertise obtained international accreditation for examining writing and signatures (according to the SR EN ISO/CEU 17025:2006 standard). The results of its examinations will be valid in cases examined by the European Court of Human Rights and will be recognized in the EU, IPN reports.

Deputy Minister of Justice Anatolie Munteanu said it is a crucial moment for the forensic sector of Moldova. “This accomplishment demonstrates the efforts made by the Ministry of Justice to strengthen the capacities of the national forensic labs and to increase the credibility of their services. In this regard, the National Center of Legal Expertise deserves recognition for the promotion and implementation of the new quality standards nationwide. In its role of coordinating institution, the Center is to carry out its key mission by sharing its experience with other public legal expertise institutions and with private experts,” said the official.

Legal expertise can be required by courts of law, prosecution bodies, interested private individuals and legal entities. The conclusions written in the expert report are used as evidence in courts. The forensic expert is like a scientific judge. In most of the cases, the end result of a trial and the quality of a passed judgment depend on the conclusions of this expert.
