The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration is to notify the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union of the completion of the internal procedures for ratifying the Association Agreement with the EU so as to ensure the provisional implementation of the accord by both of the sides from this autumn, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Ministry.
The negotiations between the EU and Moldova on the Association Agreement were initiated in January 2010, while those on the creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement – in January 2012. The negotiations on the Association Agreement were finished in July 2013, after 15 rounds of consultation, while those on the DCFTA – in June 2013, after seven rounds of talks. The accord was initiated at the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit of November 29, 2013.
In a special ceremony on June 27, 2014, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca signed the Association Agreement with the EU. On July 2, Moldova’s Parliament ratified it by 59 votes in favor.
