The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration came into possession of information about the cars of the Moldovan diplomats in Moscow last June. The Ministry said that it took a number of measures meanwhile, but these measures couldn’t be revealed as the information was confidential, IPN reports.
The Ministry’s secretary general Mihai Capatana told a press briefing that the information about the vehicles with special license numbers appeared in a report of the Audit Office. Within verifications, there were identified a number of irregularities. The Ministry asked for explanations from the Moldovan embassy in Moscow. On June 27, 2012, a report came from Moscow on the striking off of the cars that do not belong to the embassy. “The Ministry took more steps and on August 21, 2012 sent the materials concerning the audit report to the Prosecutor General’s Office, asking that it examine them. No answer came yet from the PGO,” stated Mihai Capatana.
He also said hat after a number of discussions with representatives of the Moldovan embassy in Moscow, 15 cars were removed from the lists. In the same connection, Capatana said that at the start of this April, the Ministry sent a new instruction to the newly appointed ambassador in Moscow, asking inventorying all the cars with special license numbers registered in the embassy’s name and the names of its employees. The Ministry also asked striking off the registers of the relevant bodies of Russia all the vehicles that do not belong to the embassy and its employees within seven days. But the embassy sent no answer so far.
The secretary general also said that a commission was created at the Ministry to verify the correctness of the allocation of special license numbers to the embassies and consulates of Moldova abroad.
According to press reports, Moldova’s embassy in Moldova has about 60 luxury cars in its garage, including several Bentleys of €200,000.
