The Republic of Moldova familiarized itself with the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC) and with the implementation in the transition period in relation to the UK of the treaties signed by Moldova and the EU, in particular the Association Agreement.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration says the Moldovan authorities on January 27, 2020 were officially notified by the EU of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU and the EAEC starting with February 1, 2020.
Under the withdrawal agreement signed on January 24, 2020 by the EU, EAEC and the UK, a period of transition was set between February 1 and December 31, 2020, with the possibility of extension for another at most 24 months. In the period, the EU legislation will continue to be applied by the UK. In the transition period, the UK will continue to be considered a member state of the EU.
The international treaties and arrangements without mandatory power signed by the EU/EAEC or by the member states in the name of the EU or by the EU/EAEC and the EU member states will continue to be applied in relation to the UK in the period.
