Foreign Affairs Ministry: EU assistance does not refer to lethal weapons

In the defense sector, the Republic of Moldova benefits from assistance from the EU through the European Peace Facility. The given assistance does not refer to lethal weapons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has said following the statements made by the President of the European Council Charles Michel, who noted that the European Union is determined to help the Republic of Moldova by outfitting its armed forces with additional equipment given the cybersecurity logistics and other activities aimed at strengthening the military capacities, IPN reports.

“The activities for 2021 included the strengthening of the medical capacities of the National Army and of the capacities of Moldova bomb disposal technicians with assistance to the value of €7 million,” the Ministry noted in a press release. Six areas of interest were identified for the immediate period. It goes to military logistics mobility, command and control, cybersecurity logistics, capacities to monitor the situation and tactical communication.

‘The Republic of Moldova and the European Union continue to cooperate to build the resilience and modernize the defenses sector,” said the Ministry.

The President of the European Council Charles Michel said the Republic of Moldova will be further supported economically and politically and €15 million will be offered for the migration sector.
