Members of the public association Movement “Force of War Veterans for Nation and Country” condemn the statements made by a group of veterans last week, including Ion Batîr, Valentin Țapeș, and Petru Roșca. They dismiss these statements about their association, its head Constantin Covrig and other veterans as aberrant and deceiving, noting they consider these actions were orchestrated with the aim of further splitting the veterans.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, Andrei Eremia, deputy head of the Movement “Force of War Veterans for Nation and Country”, said the veterans mounted a protest on March 2, 2020. Then, the veterans decided to strengthen their ranks and created the association “Force of Veterans”. But they ascertained that their members included intruders, some of whom represented former governments, and their goal was to divide them.

“As regards the so-called group Batîr, it was noticed that this works against the veterans, against unity. An initiative group consisting of veterans from districts decided that another organization should be founded. And this new organization “Force of War Veterans” was created. That group went to court to create impediments to us,” said Andrei Eremia. According to him, as in the first constitution congress of the Movement, Constantin Covrig was elected chairman of the Movement in the second congress too.

Andrei Eremia noted that to overcome this dispute and to distance themselves from intruders, they decided to set up another organization. A new congress was held and the “Force of War Veterans for Nation and Country” was constituted. In the congress, Constantin Covrig was unanimously elected as chairman of the association. “We condemn the assertions made by this Batîr group in the meeting of March 23, 2023. We consider these are aberrant, deceiving affirmations. We will not stop and will not allow anyone to prevent us from achieving our goal to unite the war veterans into once force,” said Andrei Eremia.

The association’s secretary Dorel Roșca said that those veterans who make accusations against Constantin Covrig play games in order to discredit the Movement and its members.

Alexandru Andronic, who heads the Cahul local organization “Force of War Veterans for Nation and Country”, noted that Dorin Recean’s decision to name Constantin Covrig as his adviser belongs to the Premier.

Valeriu Iuteș, the leader of the Hâncești local organization, said the veterans condemn the unfriendly actions and statements on the part of the association led by Ion Batîr. “We regret a lot that there is no public call to all the veterans, from all the associations, to unite into a strong apolitical association so as to solve the problems encountered by the veterans,” he stated.
