The draft law on the 2020 budget envisages a salary increase between 6 and 10% for the majority of the employees of state institutions. At the same time, for some categories of budget employees, the remuneration could increase up to 1500-2000 lei per month. The proposals have been discussed during public consultations on the salary policy for 2020 and for medium term (2021-2022), IPN reports.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Finance and brought together representatives of trade unions and central public authorities. During the consultations, the minister Natalia Gavrilița has announced that the draft provides for the correction of some pay inequalities for some categories of employees, including those in the local public administration, in the field of education, in the penitentiary institutions and in the field of defence, etc.

Thus, in the case of mayors from settlements with up to 20 thousand inhabitants, who currently may have lower salaries than some employees in their subordination, the salary increase will reach about 1500 lei per month.

The draft also provides for salary increases for employees of the educational system. For example, the monthly salaries of deputy principals in high schools and vocational-technical schools will rise by about 2000 lei. In the case of teachers and educators, the salaries will be increased by 680 and 900 lei respectively.

The Minister of Finance has pointed out that wage increases will also be accompanied by measures of economic growth and increased labour productivity.

"The demographic problem affects every sector of the economy; all institutions face problems with recruiting employees. One of the solutions to this problem is raising wages. At the same time, we reckon that these increases in the remuneration of work must be correlated with the increase in work productivity, this means management systems, internal control and the introduction of technologies and other elements that enhance work productivity and ensure economic growth”, said Natalia Gavrilița, quoted in a press release of the MF.

To become effective, the Budget Law for 2020 shall be approved by the Government, and subsequently passed in Parliament.
