The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) instituted criminal proceedings within which it will investigate the circumstances in which the footage showing President Igor Dodon receiving a bag, which was allegedly with money, from the former Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc was made, IPN reports.

In a press release, the PGO says the proceedings were instituted based on denouncements submitted by the leader of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Andrei Năstase and MP Iurie Reniță last weekend, in accordance with Article 274 “Taking of legal action” of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The prosecutors will carry out a number of investigations to see if the actions of the protagonists of the footage contain elements of an offence. The PGO will inform about the taken measures and the decisions adopted as a result.

Last week, the MPs of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” asked to set up a special commission of inquiry into the acts of corruption and unjust enrichment of President Igor Dodon. Alexandru Slusari referred to the footage featuring Igor Dodon, Sergey Yaralov and Vlad Plahotniuc, where the latter transmits a bag to the President “for paying particular salaries”.
