Food prices halve in Q1

The average prices of food dropped 47.4% in quarter 1 of 2009, compared to the same period of 2008, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the National Statistics Bureau. The prices of vegetal products dropped sharply during the reference period: by 60.1%. The wheat price (best quality only) dropped 67.5%, the corn (best quality only) – 66.3%, sunflower – 58.0%, and vegetables – 53.4%. The prices of food processed from animals did not take plunges so deep (6.5% on average): of eggs – 30.6%, milk – 5.1% and birds (live) – 4.4% etc. At the same time, the prices of live animals skyrocketed: sheep and goats – by 91.5%, cattle – 27.8% and pigs – 22.6%.
